1. When do I receive my utility bills?
Utility bills (water, electricity, gas) in Taiwan are sent to your apartment’s mailbox every 2 months. It is crucial to pay them before their due date to avoid any late fees or service interruptions. Keep your billing information handy, and make sure to retain your payment receipts for record-keeping purposes.
2. Do I need to set up or change the bill to my name?
The utility bills will usually be under the landlord’s name and you will not need to change it to your own name.
3. How do I copy the gas meter reading?
As the gas meter is located “inside” your apartment, you will need to copy the digits down on the pink slip (usually located in the elevator) for the gas company. The gas meter is commonly located on your back balcony. The gas company will base the calculations on these readings and send you the bills every 2 months.

4. How can I pay my utility bills?
- Convenience Stores
Most convenience stores in Taiwan, such as 7-Eleven, Family Mart, and Hi-Life, offer bill payment services. You can bring your utility bill or the payment barcode to the cashier, and they will assist you in making the payment in cash. Due to easy accessibility, this is often the most commonly used method.
- Automatic Bank Transfer:
If you do not want to carry so much cash around or if you travel often, you can set up automatic bank transfers (autopay) to pay your utility bills. This means that the utility company will automatically deduct the amount due from your bank account on a specified date each month. To set this up, you will need to bring the utility bill physically to your bank. This usually takes around 1 month to become active. Before moving out, it is important to cancel this service.
- Bank Counter:
You can visit your bank and pay your utility bills in person with cash. Simply bring the bill or your account number, and the bank staff will process the payment.
- Online Payment:
Some payment can be done through the utility company’s websites or mobile apps. You can create an online account, link your utility bill to your account, and pay your bills electronically using a credit card or bank account.
5. What can I do if my unitily bills are overdue?
While there may be a buffer period (usually 1 week) from when the bill is due and the last day you can make payments, the safest way is to go pay the bills directly at the utility companies.
