II. Eligibility Requirements

What is the Employment Gold Card?
Launched in 2018, the Taiwan Employment Gold Card is a 4-in-1 card, that includes a resident visa, work permit, Alien Resident Certificate (ARC), and re-entry permit, which allows you to leave and re-enter Taiwan multiple times over the course of 1-3 years. Applicants can apply online without sponsorship.
Who can qualify for the Gold Card?
Economy
- A most recent monthly salary of at least NTD 160,000
- Executive role in operations, technical, or marketing in Taiwan
- 8 years of experience in cultural and creative sectors
- Professional technical skills related to key industry products,
- Expertise in semiconductors, ICT, biotechnology/medical materials, precision machinery, etc.
Science & Tech
- A recent monthly salary of at least NTD 160,000
- Exceptional R&D capabilities in advanced technologies
- Nobel laureates, Tang Prize winners, Wolf Prize winners, Fields Medal recipients, etc.
- Senior Executive or key R&D personnel who have led an overseas startup to an IPO
- Senior executive of a venture capital firm or fund with successful investments in overseas startups
Architecture
- Licensed R.O.C architect with a most recent monthly salary of at least NTD 160,000
- Licensed foreign architect with a most recent monthly salary of at least NTD 160,000
National Defense
- 5 years of experience in machinery, electrical engineering, project management, or R&D within the defense aerospace sector
- 5 years of experience in the design, construction supervision, development, or project management of shipborne weaponry and platforms
Education
- PhD graduates from a top 500 university
- At least 3 years of full-time teaching or research at a top 500 university within the last 5 years
- Renowned international scholar funded by the Yushan Fellow Program
- Currently employed as a teacher, researcher, or educational administrator for at least 5 years with a recent monthly salary of at least NTD 160,000
Culture and Arts
- Experience in new cultural industries
- Cultural Administration
- Performing Arts or Visual Arts
- Film, Broadcast, and Pop Music
- Publishing
- Handicraft
Finance
- Most recent monthly salary of at least NTD 160,000
- Senior executives of financial institutions
- Financial professional needed by the government to promote key industries
- Served in a professional position in financial institutions
Law
- Holding a previous or current position as a chair professor at a foreign university or as a research fellow at a foreign research institute, while also being a licensed attorney in the R.O.C or a foreign legal affairs attorney.
- A licensed attorney in the R.O.C or a foreign legal affairs attorney with a recent monthly salary of at least NT$160,000.
Special Case Review by NDC
If the applicant does not fit into a qualifying field after consultation but meets the criteria for recognition of special expertise, their application can be submitted for Special Case Review.
How to apply for an Employment Gold Card?

Required Documents
- Color copy of your passport with at least 6 month validity remaining.
- 2 inch color passport/identification photo, taken within 6 months.
- Supporting documents corresponding to the requirements of the regulation Under which you are applying.
- Your previous Taiwanese visa and residence permit (if necessary).
Note:
It can take between 30 to 60 business days to complete the entire Employment Gold Card application process.
If you are applying from Taiwan, please make sure that you have enough time remaining on your existing visa.
If not, you may need to leave and re-enter the country, even if you are currently applying for a Gold Card.

Benefits to having a Gold Card
- You have the freedom to be employed by any company, including those operating remotely, or to establish your own venture in Taiwan.
- Gold Card holders embarking on their first employment stint in Taiwan qualify for a 50% tax reduction on their income exceeding NTS3 million during the initial five years.
- Residents of Taiwan, encompassing employees, employers, self-employed individuals, and their dependents, have the option to directly enroll in the National Health Insurance scheme.
- While spouses and children are eligible to seek ARCs, parents and grandparents have the opportunity to apply for Visitor Visas, extendable for up to one year.
- Individuals who have maintained residence in Taiwan for three consecutive years and fulfill specific criteria are entitled to petition for Permanent Residency. Pursuing a Doctorate Degree within the R.O.C. contributes towards fulfilling one of the requisite three years.
